Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
