Followers Call for Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who jumped a fence and touched the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A circulating clip shows the Australian man shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being taken in", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be released on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film interpretation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
