Jurgen Klopp says a return to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is an option. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, now holds roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach any other side on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations must arise to bring him back to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. With many victories thus frequently a very good mood at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is difficult. Impossible.”
