The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
