The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
