Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to the White House
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Community Response
Attendees came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in the capital.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was caring, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general Bondi informed a news show that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
